(SU) =WATER
"Be formless... shapeless, like Water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot; it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, and it can crash. Be water, my friend..."

The Taekwondo in Schools program introduces school students (from year 7 to year 12) to Taekwondo through a short course (typically 4 to 8 weeks) provided as part of the schools Physical Education or Sports syllabus. The program has been specially adpated to the needs of students in a school environment and includes basic techniques, use of safety equipment and self defence. The course is conducted at HanSu Taekwondo training centre "dojang" and instruction is provided by a Taekwondo Instructor holding the following qualifications:
All school students, irrespective of gender can benefit from undertaking the In School Taekwondo course. People of all ages, gender and sizes practice Taekwondo for different reasons, some to improve fitness and flexibility, some to learn self defence and others to perhaps progress to competition Sports Taekwondo. The class is designed to cater for all needs, even those who may have a physical or other disabilities. The practice of Taekwondo can improve health and fitness, balance, agility and alertness of mind. Taekwondo also improves self confidence and discipline as a person progresses and learns skills for self defence. Such discipline, self confidence and knowlege is beneficial to the life of individuals and families alike. Although Taekwondo is a contact sport, statistics have shown that the risk of injury is low, much less than football and other contact sports. Risks are further reduced or minimised in the Taekwondo in School program by course design, correct supervision by qualified instructors and the use of approved protective equipment where appropriate. Students that have undertaken the Schools course may wish to join HanSu Taekwondo and progress to competing in Taekwondo competitions. Competitions are conducted at club, state, national and international levels in may age and weights for both junior and senior players of either Sports or Technical Taekwondo. Taekwondo featured as a full medal sport at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Bullying is an act of aggression and an abuse of power, which can take a number of forms such as verbal or physical abuse. Bullying can cause a person to feel scared, embrassed and angry which can affect their sleep, work or studies, relationships and general happines. Many young people feel the discomfort of being targeted by a bully. Those who lack self confidence can be obvious 'easy' targets for bullies. Taekwondo can teach people to become more confident with their ability to deal with potentially aggressive situations. Good self esteem can be a foundation for a happy, fulfilling life and an education in Taekwondo can significantly increase the development of self confidence and self esteem. Considering most bullies have more 'bark than bite' the skills taught in Taekwondo can give people the confidence to perturb a potential bully or have the strength to walk away from conflict situations with their self esteem intact. Taekwondo does not set out to teach students to hurt others. For further information about the Taekwondo in School Program at HanSu Taekwondo please contact the office on 03 9578 4946.
